What is the P.A.C.E. Approach?
Playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy.
PACE is a way of thinking, feeling, communicating and behaving that aims to help children feel safe. When children feel that you have connected with the emotional part of their brain they are more able to engage the thoughtful, articulate, problem solving areas.

Playful
The purpose of playfulness is to enjoy being together in an unconditional way. It is about creating a fun, light and playful atmosphere.

Acceptance
Is about accepting that whatever the child is feeling is ok. We are accepting their thoughts, feelings and perceptions without judgement.
It's ok to feel the way they do.

Curiosity
Approaching children with an air of curiosity and seeking to understand the meaning underneath the behaviour can help to bring out the best in a child.

Empathy
Empathy gives us a sense of compassion for a child and their feelings. Being with a child and recognising their emotional state can make a huge difference to how they cope when feeling distressed.
